GOAT ISLAND LIGHT - Maine

Location: Goat Island, Cape Porpoise Harbor
Currently Operational: Yes
Height: 38 feet
Year Established: 1835

Goat Island Light has been guiding mariners into the Kennebunk River since 1835, making it one of southern Maine’s older lighthouses. The light sits at the mouth of the river on a small rocky island just offshore from Kennebunkport. Its cylindrical brick tower is attached by a walkway to the keeper’s house. For more than 150 years, keepers lived on the island, dealing with rough seas and isolation while keeping the light burning.

Today the lighthouse is owned and maintained by the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust, which occasionally offers tours of Goat Island and the light.
